Instant messaging apps are trending since last few years. Out of these messengers Whatsapp dominates more. Even though there are many messengers better than Whatsapp in terms of features and security, people prefer to use Whatsapp. Now let us compare some IMs and find the best alternatives for Whatsapp.

1)Whatsapp


    Whatsapp is the leading leading instant messaging app with 1 billion active users in over 180 countries. Whatsapp was first released in January 2009. All messages sent are end-to-end encrypted. Users can send text, images, documents, videos and GIF s using their internet connection. Whatsapp provides voice and video calling facility. In February 2014, Facebook acquired Whatsapp for about US$ 19 billion. Whats is now available on all major platforms. Desktop app of Whatsapp requires your phone to be connected to internet. Android users can backup their chat history to Google drive and Windows phone users can backup their chat history to Onedrive. Whatsapp chat may not be encrypted while they are in Google drive or Onedrive.     Telegram is the most secure and fastest growing messaging application. Telegram delivers messages faster than any other messengers. All telegram messages are end-to-end encrypted and they are stored in cloud so that users can access their messages anywhere at any time. Users can use more than one device at a time to access telegram. Telegram users can send self-destructing messages which automatically disappears  from sender and receiver after the time specified by the user. All secret chats can be accessed only from the device which it was created. Telegram, at present, do not provide video calling facility. But we can expect it will be added soon. Telegram groups can have a maximum of 500 members. Users can create channels through which they can get followers. Telegram allows users to send files of any type without a limit on its size. Messenger supports adding multiple accounts to the app since February 2016.

WeChat

WeChat is developed by Tencent. It was released in January 21 2011. By 2016 it became the largest messaging app by number of active users. WeChat had about 889 million monthly active users in 2016. The app is now available for Windows, iOS, Android and mac OS. WeChat offers text messaging, video conferencing, video games, photo, video and location sharing. WeChat can access messages and contacts of its users. WeChat have a web client through which users can send messages and files. Since 2014, WeChat cannot be used on Android emulators.

Viber is an instant messaging and VoIP app that was released on December 2010. Viber is available for Android, Windows phone, IOS and Blackberry and Linux. in December 2016, Viber had 800 million users. Viber provides an option for its users to call mobile and landlines.     It is clear that there are many messaging apps which offers more features than Whatsapp, But i prefer to use Whatsapp because all my friends live in it.
